Home to the highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel in Britain
Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre is now closed for the winter. Thanks to everyone who supported us in our Bicentenary Year. We will be reopening on 24th March 2012. Our 2012 events programme is here now!

A unique spot in the heart of the Pennine countryside, Standedge Tunnel is the longest canal tunnel in Britain and a real jewel in the waterways crown. There is plenty for all the family to see and do, so come on down and join in!

Reopened in 2001 after a 20 year restoration programme, the Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre sits on the banks of the historic Huddersfield Narrow Canal, a waterway of startling contrasts, from tranquil countryside to dramatic mills.

You can’t help but marvel at the spectacular rural surroundings that welcome the start of the wild and untamed Marsden Moor.

Leave your car in the free car park and take the leisurely fifteen-minute stroll along the towpath and you’ll find yourself in breathtaking countryside. A spot where, whatever your age, there is plenty to see and do.
There's so much to see at Standedge Tunnel & Visitor Centre. Click to see more about Standedge.
