Family Spring Picnic and Nature Treasure Hunt Walk by Kirklees Countryside Unit. Meet Diane and John at 12.30pm at Tunnel End Picnic Site. Bring a picnic and then go on a 3 mile leisurely walk. Weather permitting. Tel: 01484 845595 for further details.

Cuckoo Day – join our very own ‘Bill Oddies’ in a walk from village to canal, spotting local wildlife. 10.30am and 2.30pm.

Fri 16 - Sun 18 May
We’re promoting rail and canal links with South Pennines Community Rail Partnership. Show us your valid rail ticket for a free cup of tea/coffee. Details from

Falconry Display – a fascinating display of hawks, falcons and vultures from the Sion Hill Bird of Prey Centre. 11am-4pm at the Visitor Centre. Adults £5.00 Concessions £3.50 Children £3.50. Payable on the day.

K9s on Canals – with The Blue Cross and Kirklees dog wardens – our ‘alternative’ dog show and sponsored dog walk. 10.30-4pm. Registration for dog classes at 10.30am.
Come and parade your pet in our fun event to celebrate everything canine! Kirklees dog wardens will be on hand to provide dog chipping and advice along with a host of stalls and features for your four legged friend. Entry to classes £1.00

Grandparents Day. Take your grandparents into the highest, longest and deepest tunnel into the country and then treat them to a cuppa afterwards.

Family History Day – delve into the past with the Waterways Archive, Huddersfield Family History Society, Huddersfield Canal Society and Kirklees Museums.

Take a halloween trip into our mysterious tunnel if you dare and hear stories of its ghostly past.

Come for one of two special extended guided boat trips and maybe a haunting experience in the Tunnel on Halloween night itself with famous ghosthunter, David Vee. Afterwards venture into the Visitor Centre to see what’s lurking if you dare! 9pm - 3am. £40.00 p/p. Pre-booking required*.
