During the Easter holidays
there will be a range of children's Wild Over Waterways
(WOW) activities, as well as an art competition with
prizes for the best 'monster of Marsden moor'.

Come down to
see us this Easter and go hunting round the site for
some tasty treats!

25 April: Cuckoo Festival
This annual event
welcomes the return of the cuckoo to Marsden when the
townspeople celebrate with a day-long festival. There
will be kids art and crafts sessions, guided nature
walks with members of British Waterways’ environment
team, heritage walks with Huddersfield Canal Society,
pond dipping, face painting and canal crafts including
rope making and Victorian style games. The National Horseboating Society will also be ‘legging’ through the
tunnel.

3 May: Teddy Bear’s Picnic
Bring the kids down to
our first ever Teddy Bear's picnic. Kids go FREE into
the longest, deepest and highest canal tunnel with a
bear! The second 'legging' event featuring the National Horseboating Society will also be taking place from
Marsden to Diggle with a small community festival being
held at Diggle.

25 May: ‘Crank It Up’ Bike Event
Crank It Up are a
voluntary project who try to provide cycling for all
people of all abilities. They provide various cycling
sessions and training ranging from cycling beginners,
leisure, disabled, older person, fun sessions and cycle
maintenance.
Sat 13 June: Ashley Jackson Painting
Day

Budding artists can pick up hints and tips from the
internationally acclaimed artist this summer. Ashley will start
the day with a discussion of his techniques, followed by the
chance for those taking part to get their brushes wet and create
a masterpiece of their very own capturing the stunning scenery
around Standedge. A full list of equipment is provided. To book

Chance to learn the skills of
traditional forms of canal art
with Pat Osborne including Roses
& Castles
painting and rag rug making. £40 per person for a full
day (1/2 day R&C, 1/2 day rag rug. |

30 August: Roses & Castles Workshop
Children will
be able to take advantage of some drop in sessions with
Pat Osborne and
learn the decorative canal art, Roses & Castles, which
is a familiar sight on narrowboats on the UK's canal
network. The course will cover:
▪ teaching about traditional colour schemes
▪ why to use the correct brushes and paints
▪ showing the importance of construction and layout of
traditional roses design
▪ extra detailing and embellishment.

September – Valuation Event
Two well known and knowledgeable experts from Tennants
Auctioneers will be on hand to evaluate virtually any item.

5 September: Bat Walk
Join John Gregory from the
West Yorkshire Bat Group as he explores Standedge and
the surrounding area for bat activity. This walk will
help people understand the plight of bats and raise the
awareness of this mystical creature.

13 September: Heritage Open Day
HOD’s celebrate
England’s architecture and culture. HOD’s also includes
tours, events and activities that focus on local
architecture and culture. HOD is England’s biggest and
most popular voluntary cultural event. Watch this space

July: Falconry Day

An amazing collection of
eagles, falcons, hawks, kites, vultures and owls from
the Sion Hill Hall Bird of Prey Centre. Spectacular
flying demonstrations at 1pm and 3pm as well as the
chance to get the ultimate hands on experience by
holding some of the birds and speak to the expert
handlers from Sion, who will be able to explain why the
birds hunt and fly as they do, where they come from in
the wild and how they are trained.

1 – Sun 9 August: Artsfest
A week long celebration
of all things arty! Visitors will be able to enjoy a
free art exhibition featuring more than 30 local artists
from the local area. The works will include ceramics,
watercolours, mixed media, textiles, acrylic and felt
wall hangings. The exhibition will be open 10.30am -
4:00pm each day. |
