SCHOOL VISITS INFORMATION
Opening times: 15 March to 2nd November 2008. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10.00am to 5.30pm (closed Monday except Bank Holidays).
Guided Boat Trips: Schools can enjoy 30 minute trips into Standedge Tunnel in a glass roofed boat. Boat trips run at 10.15, 11am, 11.45am, 1pm, 1.45pm, 2.30pm, 3.15pm and 4pm. Boat trips must be booked in advance for school visits. The boat trip capacity is 31 persons.
Prices: Free entrance in to the Visitor Centre, which features the history of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, and the building of Standedge Tunnel.
The Thomas Bourne room is available for use FREE of charge upon booking a boat trip, subject to availability. Resources are available within the room.
School Boat Trip Charges (for groups of 15 or more): Children (5 – 15 years) £3.00, Teaching and support staff FREE of Charge.
Tunnel End Reservoir: The adjacent reservoir site (approximately 15-20 minutes walk) offers opportunities for river and pond investigation work. Equipment may be borrowed from Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre, a £20 refundable deposit is charged.
