Through trips for the public Through trips for boaters WINTER STOPPAGES UPDATE

The more adventurous may like to consider a trip right through the 3 ¼ mile tunnel. Passenger through trips last around 3 hours and operate on the following dates in 2011: 26 March*, April 16, April 30, May 14, May 28, June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, August 6, August 20, Sept 3, Sept 17, October 1, October 15, October 29 and November 12.

You’ll travel through the tunnel in the passenger module with a specialist guide. When you reach the other side, why not take a walk back ‘over the top’, details of the walk are available, alternatively buses regularly run and timetables are available on request.

Marsden to Diggle: Sets off at 9am
Diggle to Marsden: Sets off at 1pm
Maximum of 20 people on each trip.
One way tickets cost £10.00 adults, £8 concessions and are available by pre-booking by telephoning 01484 844 298 or emailing info@standedge.co.uk.

To book passage please call the Standedge Team on 01782 785703. Please allow as much time to book a possible passage as places are limited. Please have your boat details ready when booking passage.

Running on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, boats are now allowed through Standedge Tunnel under their own diesel power accompanied by a British Waterways chaperone.

There are measurement restrictions on boats passing through Standedge Tunnel. Boats over 6' 10" wide, over 70ft long, 6’ 2” above water and 3ft below water are not allowed into the tunnel. Full tunnel passage is unsuitable, and therefore not available, for people who are unable to disembark the passenger tug unaided, as there is a ladder which needs to be climbed. A taxi can be booked for those who are unable to go through the tunnel. Please speak to tunnel staff upon arrival and arrangements will be made for you.

Following on from the confirmation of stoppages on the East side of the canal to allow a third party to remove the Sellers Tunnel we have become aware of a potential discrepancy in the opening hours stated on the internet for Standedge Tunnel over the winter period. Because of the general closure of the East side of the canal from 1st October 2011, there will be no passages through Standedge Tunnel for travel to Huddersfield during the stoppage period.
The trip boat operation at Standedge Visitor Centre will continue as advertised.
We apologise for any confusion caused.
The canal re-opens over its entire length on Saturday 1st April 2012.

For full through trip information please see Standedge Customer Guidelines pdf available here.
