Running on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays, boats are now allowed through Standedge Tunnel
under their own diesel power accompanied by a British
Waterways chaperone.

There are measurement restrictions on
boats passing through Standedge Tunnel. Boats over 6'
10" wide, over 70ft long, 6’ 2” above water and 3ft
below water are not allowed into the tunnel. Full tunnel
passage is unsuitable, and therefore not available, for
people who are unable to disembark the passenger tug
unaided, as there is a ladder which needs to be climbed.
A taxi can be booked for those who are unable to go
through the tunnel. Please speak to tunnel staff upon
arrival and arrangements will be made for you.

Following on from the
confirmation of stoppages on the East side of the canal
to allow a third party to remove the Sellers Tunnel we
have become aware of a potential discrepancy in the
opening hours stated on the internet for Standedge
Tunnel over the winter period. Because of the general
closure of the East side of the canal from 1st October
2011, there will be no passages through Standedge Tunnel
for travel to Huddersfield during the stoppage period.
The trip boat operation at Standedge Visitor Centre will
continue as advertised.
We apologise for any confusion caused.
The canal re-opens over its entire length on Saturday
1st April 2012. |
